Terms of Use

Welcome to Chess Academy. By using an account, friends and online play you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you can still play against the computer and use the lessons and puzzles without an account.

1. The game

The game is in testing and development, so its features may change, it may be unavailable at times, and errors may happen. We take care to save your progress, but we cannot guarantee that none of it is ever lost.

2. Your account

• Give correct details and your real birth year, which decides what suits your age when talking with other players.
• You are responsible for your account and password, so do not share it with anyone.
• Your nickname must not be offensive or impersonate another person or the game's staff. It can be changed once every 30 days.
• Players under 13 use an account with a parent's permission.

3. Respect other players

• No insults, abuse, harassment or racist language, and no impersonating another person or the staff.
• Do not share your own or anyone else's personal details, such as phone numbers, addresses or photos.
• No links, ads or repeated spam.
• On stage: do not record anyone’s voice or share it without their permission, do not harass or verbally abuse anyone, and do not play disturbing sounds or talk that is unsuitable for children. The game’s host can mute anyone or take them off the stage.

4. Fair play

• In online games, do not use programs or engines that play for you or suggest moves.
• Do not arrange the result of a game with others, or lose on purpose to raise someone's rating.
• Tournaments: the same rules apply to tournament games, so do not arrange their results or play from a second account to raise your own or anyone else’s standing. A private tournament is created by a player for their friends only, is unrated, and can be cancelled by its creator before it starts. We may cancel the result or medal of anyone who breaks these terms.
• Do not try to break into the game, its servers or other players' accounts, flood it with automated requests, or exploit a bug. If you find a bug, please tell us.

5. Blocking, reports and suspension

• You can block and report any player at any time, from the Friends screen or the chat.
• We review reports within a day, and we may remove anything that breaks these terms or suspend the account of anyone who breaks them, temporarily or permanently.

6. Content and ownership

• The game, its design, images, models, lessons and sounds belong to its owner and may not be copied, sold or published without permission.
• The game uses open-source software under its own licenses, including the Stockfish chess engine under GPL-3.0. The full list is in Settings, then About.
• You are responsible for what you write in chat and for your nickname.

7. Limits of responsibility

The game is provided as it is, for learning and fun. The coach's and engine's analysis helps you learn and can be wrong. We are not liable for loss caused by service outages or lost data, to the extent the law allows.

8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from “My account”, then “Delete account”, and everything that belongs to you is deleted with it, as the Privacy Policy explains.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. We write the date of the last update at the top of the page and tell you about important changes. Continuing to use your account after an update means you accept it.

10. Governing law and contact
